Warren Orthodontics

Set in the insular neighborhood of San Francisco’s West Portal district, we designed the new Warren Orthodontics Building. After a major fire destroyed the Warren’s original office building, our task was to rebuild as quickly as possible. The new building is home to the Warren’s orthodontics offices on the second floor and a neighborhood wine bar/restaurant on the ground floor. Reflecting the village like character of its neighbors, the façade is a mix of traditional and contemporary details. The large horizontal glazed bay windows provide natural light for the operatory and a panoramic view of MUNI’s light rail cars as they enter the West Portal tunnel, heading downtown. A horizontal bay window is counter balanced by a vertical copper-paneled bay window that changes color over time. A traditional knee bracket cornice and large-format tiles on the ground floor provide a background for these forms.
