Tower Car Wash
The Tower Car Wash is an adaptive reuse of a 30's Moderne/Spanish Colonial landmark, conceptually uniting old and new beneath it's great sheltering canopy. Contemporary materials were fused with an existing structure to bring an openness, light and color to the previously dark and enclosed structure. The frankly industrial character of the canopy construction became a point of departure for many details. The Mediterranean/California tower is revealed by the creation of a halo-shaped oculus, which illuminates the gleaming autos below and enshrines Californians' love affair with their cars.
